Indian Philanthropist Clears Education Loans of 202 Students at US College

In the city of Raleigh in North Carolina, USA, the Wilson College of Textiles is well known for offering courses related to the textile industry. On May 8, the college held its graduation ceremony where 176 students received undergraduate degrees and 26 students received postgraduate degrees. Indian-origin businessman Anil Kochhar attended the event as the chief guest and surprised everyone with a generous announcement. He promised to pay off the education loans of all 202 graduating students and donated the required amount immediately. In total, he cleared student loans worth around ₹76.18 crore. Speaking at the event, Anil Kochhar said that his father, Prakash Kochhar, had migrated from Punjab, India, to the United States and was given an opportunity to study at the Wilson College of Textiles in the 1950s. After graduating from the college, his father became a successful businessman in the textile industry. Anil Kochhar said that he and his family would always remain grateful to the college and wanted the students to begin their future without the burden of debt. He added that his father is no longer alive, and he was paying the students’ education loans in his memory. The students and college administration emotionally thanked Anil Kochhar for his kind gesture. Major American media outlets, including The New York Times, praised Anil Kochhar and reported widely about his generosity.
