In the realm of internet speed, scientists in Japan have achieved a new world record. Generally, internet speed is measured based on the amount of data, in megabytes, transmitted per second. This is referred to as Mbps. In the United States, the internet speed is approximately 300 megabytes per second. In India, it stands at 64 megabytes per second. Meanwhile, scientists from Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology have accomplished a groundbreaking feat in internet speed. That is to say, a test has been conducted with the highest internet speed in the world, measuring 1.02 petabits. A petabit is equivalent to 10 million gigabytes, which translates to 102 billion megabytes. With this speed, it is possible to download everything available on the ‘Netflix’ platform in just one second. In addition to this, a new initiative has also been demonstrated by Japanese scientists. Internet services are provided through what is known as ‘fiber optic cables.’ These cables contain a single core, referred to as the main conductor. For the current test, Japanese scientists have utilized 19 cores. However, the overall thickness of the cable, measuring 0.125 mm, was appropriate. Through this, they have achieved the capability to transmit data over long distances. Specifically, data has been exchanged over a distance of 1,808 km.
