The Chinese Foreign Ministry has confirmed the withdrawal of troops from four locations in Eastern Ladakh Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi engaged in discussions, including the Galwan Valley. Furthermore, it emphasized that during a recent meeting in Russia, India and China reached an agreement to work together for improving their bilateral relations. According to a press release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi engaged in discussion on the sidelines of a BRICS meeting focused on security matters in St. Petersburg, Russia. They reviewed the advancements made in recent talks concerning border issues. In response to inquiries about the potential for a breakthrough in restoring bilateral relations, which have been strained for over four years due to military tensions in Eastern Ladakh.
Recently, the military forces of China and India have successfully disengaged in four areas along the Western part of their border, including the Galwan Valley. This statement followed by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s remarks in Geneva, where he noted that about 75 percent of the issues related to disengagement with China have been resolved. Doval and Wang serve as the Special Representatives for the discussions regarding the India-China border. The Chinese Foreign Ministry shared details about their meeting, indicating that both sides believe that stable relations between China and India are essential for the long-term interests of their people and for regional peace and development.
They agreed to follow through on the consensus reached by their leaders, improve mutual understanding and trust, maintain ongoing communication, and create favorable conditions to strengthen their bilateral relationship.The meeting between Doval and Wang happened two weeks after India and China had diplomatic discussions. During those talks, they decided to improve communication through diplomatic and military means to solve ongoing problems. To tackle the standoff, both sides have held 21 rounds of talks at the Corps Commander level.India insists that restoring relations with China depends on achieving peace along the border.
