An Indian Air Force Tejas fighter jet crashed on Friday during a flying display at the Dubai Airshow 2025, killing the pilot, Squadron Leader Naman Syal from Kangra. The aircraft went down around 2:10 pm local time at Al Maktoum International Airport, bursting into flames moments after impact. Videos showed the jet plummeting rapidly with no sign of ejection. The crash happened in front of spectators, including families, as thick smoke rose from the site and emergency teams rushed in. The Indian Air Force has ordered a Court of Inquiry to determine the cause of the accident.

The Tejas, India’s homegrown light combat aircraft, has been a key part of the country’s defence modernization plans. India recently signed a deal for 97 new Tejas jets, with deliveries set to begin in 2027, while an earlier order for 83 aircraft has been delayed due to engine supply issues from the United States. The incident is expected to draw attention to safety and operational checks as the Tejas continues to be promoted on international platforms like the Dubai Airshow.
