A controversy broke out at a major AI summit in the national capital after Galgotias University was asked to vacate its stall over a robotic dog display. During the event at Bharat Mandapam, the university showcased a robotic dog named “Orion.” A video from the summit went viral on social media, with claims that the robot was presented as an Indian innovation. However, many online users pointed out that the robot looked similar to the Unitree Go2, a commercially available robotic dog made by Chinese company Unitree Robotics. Soon after the video spread online, criticism grew, with people questioning whether the robot was actually developed in India. Following the controversy, summit organisers reportedly asked the university to remove its exhibition stall. In response, the university clarified that it had not claimed to have manufactured the robot. It stated that the robotic dog was purchased for research and educational purposes to help students learn about artificial intelligence and robotics. The incident has sparked debate on social media about transparency in technology exhibitions and the importance of promoting genuine Indian innovations at international platforms.
