The United States has revised a statement in its trade agreement with India regarding the purchase of goods worth 500 billion dollars. Earlier, the agreement said that India had “committed” to buying 500 billion dollars’ worth of American goods. However, this wording has now been changed. The word “committed” has been removed and replaced with a softer phrase stating that India “aims” or “intends” to purchase goods worth 500 billion dollars. This change is seen as an important clarification in trade diplomacy, as the word “commitment” could imply a binding obligation. By using the term “intends,” both countries maintain flexibility in negotiations and future trade discussions. The trade talks between India and the US focus on strengthening economic ties, increasing exports and imports, and expanding cooperation in sectors such as defense, energy, technology, and agriculture. Officials from both sides have said that discussions are ongoing and that the final trade framework will reflect mutual interests and economic realities.
