A commuter train operated by New Jersey Transit collided with a large piece of tree debris on the tracks on Monday morning, resulting in the death of the train operator and injuries to nearly twenty individuals. The incident took place shortly after 6 a.m. in the vicinity of Roebling Station, as reported by NJ Transit. At the time of the accident, there were 42 passengers on board the River Line train, and footage from television news outlets captured a significant portion of the tree lodged beneath the front of the train.
According to New Jersey Transit, twenty-three individuals received treatment for minor injuries. Investigators are currently working to ascertain the circumstances that led to the tree being on the tracks. In the aftermath of the incident, River Line service has been suspended in both directions between the Roebling and Trenton stations, and certain nearby roadways, including U.S. Highway 130, have been closed to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
