A Delhi CBI court has discharged former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi excise policy case, stating that there was not enough evidence to continue the charges against him. The case was originally filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), alleging irregularities in the liquor policy introduced during the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi. Along with Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and several others were accused and later arrested. They were lodged in Tihar Jail while the investigation was underway. After hearing the case, the court also discharged Manish Sisodia and 23 other accused persons. The judge strongly criticized the CBI for registering the case without sufficient evidence and said the allegations of conspiracy were based on assumptions rather than proof. The court observed that relying mainly on confessional statements was against constitutional principles and legal procedures. It has ordered a departmental inquiry against the CBI officials responsible for filing the case without proper evidence. The court also recommended action regarding the inclusion of Delhi government employee Kuldeep Singh in the case without valid proof.
