At least 18 people have died in massive wildfires spreading across southern and central Chile. The fires have forced around 50,000 residents to leave their homes as flames continue to destroy large areas of land. The worst-affected regions include Ñuble and Biobío, located about 500 kilometers south of the capital, Santiago, where strong winds and dry weather have helped the fires spread rapidly. In response to the growing crisis, Chile’s President has declared a state of emergency in the two affected provinces. Firefighters, emergency teams, and the military have been deployed to control the fires and help evacuate people to safer areas. Several homes, farms, and forests have been damaged, and power supply has been disrupted in some locations. Authorities have urged residents to follow evacuation orders and safety guidelines as efforts continue to contain the wildfires and prevent further loss of life.
